Our Values
Stevendale Baptist Church was organized in 1956, and is an active member of the Baptist Association of Greater Baton Rouge, The Louisiana Baptist Convention, and the Southern Baptist Convention.
We are a body of believers made up of people from different backgrounds and stories joined together because of the gospel of Christ.
We have been through some significant changes in the past several years, including the great flood of 2016 that destroyed our church campus and our neighborhoods, and the Covid-19 pandemic that has reshaped societal interaction.
Today, we are a smaller church doing big things. By the grace of God, we have restored, improved, and modernized four of our five campus buildings. There still is much left to do, but we are confident that God works all things together for good for those who love him and are called according to his purpose.
Stevendale Baptist Church affirms the Baptist Faith and Message as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention.
Further, because culturally and politically, there is confusion and disagreement on the issue of marriage, we offer the following statement of belief: We believe that marriage is exclusively the union of a man and a woman.
Adam and Eve were created in God’s image, equal before God as persons and distinct in their manhood and womanhood. God instituted monogamous marriage between male and female as the foundation of the family and basic structure of human society. God's plan for human sexuality is to be expressed only within the context of marriage. For this reason, we believe that marriage is exclusively the union of one genetic male and one genetic female.

Luke Ash
Elder
Luke was born and raised in Baton Rouge. He and his wife, Emily, have four children. Luke began his bi-vocational role as pastor at Stevendale Baptist Church on March 2, 2025. In July of 2025 he was fired from his job at a local library for refusing to refer to his coworker with biologically inaccurate pronouns. This event sparked national conversation and led to legislation in Louisiana that protects freedom of speech in the workplace. Luke has led SBC to partner with other local churches and Wycliffe Bible Translators to bring God’s word to Nigeria.
